The price of small and medium-sized panels remains stable and upward, and the penetration rate of OLED mobile phone panels will reach 38% next year
On October 16, trendforce, a market research organization, held an industry prediction seminar. Fan Boyu, Research Associate of the display research office, said that the demand for medium and low-end mobile phones grew against the trend this year, driving the prices of small and medium-sized panels to remain stable and upward since the second quarter. Although the OLED panels of high-end models are relatively weak, the penetration rate of OLED panels will increase to 38% next year after the expansion of brand factories, An annual increase of 5 percentage points.
Fan Boyu pointed out that due to the impact of the epidemic, the penetration rate of OLED mobile phones has been reduced to 33% this year, but it is expected that after the gradual fermentation of events such as the trade war and Huawei ban, the proportion of high-end models imported into OLED will still grow next year. According to statistics, at present, the global OLED panel supply is still dominated by Korean manufacturers, with Samsung accounting for more than 80%, LG accounting for 5%, and mainland panel manufacturers accounting for nearly 10%.
Observing the changes in the mobile phone panel market this year, fan Boyu analyzed that the demand has rebounded since the second quarter of this year, among which the demand for medium and low-end models is the strongest. Under the expected promotion and preparation of manufacturers, the prices of LTPS and a-Si / igzo rose steadily and slowly in the third quarter, with a monthly increase of about 5%. The prices are expected to remain stable in the fourth quarter, and the application proportion of the two in the mobile phone panel will reach 37.7% and 28.9% respectively this year.
In terms of large-size panels, according to Jibang's analysis, the Korean factory is not competitive with the mainland panel factory in terms of production capacity, and plans to withdraw from the large-size LCD market by the end of the year, which will enable the mainland panel factory to grasp about 60% of the global production capacity, while the epidemic also drives the growth of demand for TV and laptop panels. It is estimated that the panel price will remain high in the fourth quarter, but the oversupply will ease with the addition of new production capacity in the mainland next year, The overall supply and demand will approach balance.
